On The Move With Lisa Miller

Lisa Miller has always been on the move, whether she’s running, x-c skiing, doing yoga, lifting, or pushing herself on the Peloton…

“I do pretty much whatever I can do at all times. It’s a big part of my social life. My friends and I cross-country ski together, we run together… I’ve just always been active. I can’t really imagine life without it.”

“Without PT, I think I would have lost a lot of function.”

Lisa first came to Cioffredi & Associates in 2022 after breaking her proximal humerus in a fall, requiring surgery and extensive PT. “Without PT, I think I would have lost a lot of function.” After a successful recovery, she returned again recently for help treating sciatica. While far less serious than her previous injury, the pain left her fearful to participate in many of the activities she loved doing.

“Initially, Lisa was having pain and numbness going down the leg. We worked to control the symptoms with some repetitive flexion motions and made modifications to keep her running throughout. That meant going at a slower pace, but she was able to keep going as frequently as she liked.”  -Tyler, Gendron, DPT

“One thing I really appreciate was not being told, ‘No. You can’t do this.’ I don’t think it’s realistic to hear, ‘Don’t do anything for months at a time.’ For me, that means I have to sit out so many social events with my friends. I’d rather like to figure out how to do things safely… Working with Tyler, and Joe too, has been really great. I don’t feel judged for wanting to move at a certain age. I don’t feel discouraged. I get encouraged. They gave me the confidence that I can keep moving.”

“I think it’s really important to learn more about your body as you get older… to understand how aging is affecting your body and what PT can actually do for you to keep you moving.  [My advice is to] Find an organization like this one, with people that can relate to you and understand you. Get involved! I really do believe that. Because, I guess before I thought that PT was 100% about like your arm falling off like mine. But it’s really not just for severe injury recovery. It’s for maintenance.”

Today, Lisa isn’t dwelling on her pain. Her “Tune-Ups” have let her focus on moving without fear — fully engaged with the activities and people she loves… “I was away this last weekend with my friends. We did two yoga classes and on Saturday, we walked over five miles… It’s just fun to be outside. It’s fun to move. It’s what we do!”
