Why We’ve Gone Out-of-Network With Some Insurance Plans
We’re sometimes asked why we are out of network with certain insurance carriers or plans, and whether we can contract with a specific plan so in-network benefits can be used. It’s a fair question—and one we’ve spent years considering carefully.
An Intentional Choice to Protect Quality of Care
Participating as an in-network provider with an insurance company comes with many requirements beyond reimbursement. These often include:
- Referral and authorization rules
- Visit and treatment limits determined by the plan, not by you and your provider
- Ongoing administrative and credentialing demands
For a small, patient-centered practice like ours, these requirements can create significant burden from a clinical and administrative standpoint – a burden that impacts our ability to treat patients in a way that will best serve them not just today, but in the long run.
Staying Aligned With the Care We Believe In
In some cases, we have explored contracting with insurance carriers but were unable to reach agreements that fairly support the time, expertise, and one-on-one attention we believe are essential for meaningful outcomes.
When reimbursement models don’t align with the true cost of delivering high-quality care, practices are often forced to compromise—shorter visits, higher patient volume, or less individualized attention.
That approach doesn’t reflect who we are or how we believe physical therapy should be practiced.
What This Allows Us to Do for You
Remaining out of network with some plans allows us to:
- Spend more time with each patient
- Move at the pace your recovery requires
- Make clinical decisions based on your goals, not insurance thresholds or limitations
- Focus on lasting progress, not just short-term symptom resolution
For patients who have out-of-network benefits, we’re happy to provide the documentation needed if you choose to seek reimbursement directly from your insurance plan. Check out our OON FAQs to help you make informed decisions about your care.
BOTTOM LINE: Our Commitment Remains the Same
Regardless of how care is paid for, our commitment is unchanged:
- Clear and honest communication from start to finish
- Care that is personal, collaborative, and evidence-informed, based on YOUR goals
